Engineer to order
-
The CAD drawings have still to be made. The CAD drawing data could be imported into the Bill of Material (BOM). This can be accomplished by the ISV application of Cadtalk that is integrated the Acumatica Cloud ERP, as you will see in the video below. This BOM will be used in a production order.

Make To Order (MTO)
-
The product is already engineered, and just needs to be manufactured or assembled. In the Acumatica Manufacturing Edition, a Sales Order can be converted into a production order as can be seen in a video below.​

- Project manufacturing​
-
A large machine or equipment needs to be made eg. a packaging machine. A project is set up with tasks, people, tools and machines. A project quote can be submitted to the customer for approval. Once approved the project quote can be converted into a project. The Acumatica Cloud ERP has a project accounting application where a project quote can be created, and upon approval by the customer be converted into a project. The major task and part in this project will be a machine to be manufactured. The Acumatica Cloud ERP enables you to convert that major part into a production/work order. A Bill Of Material will have to be made for this major part. Since such a machine needs to be made according to the specs of the customer sales order, the manufacturing will only start when the customer order is placed. Therefore the Make To Order (MTO) manufacturing method will be used. Details about the Manufacturing Management Application will be discussed later.

The equipment manufacturer may make a one of or a few machines of the same type. The manufacturing time for one machine can be a week to months. It is crucial to have all the right material on time else, the whole production could be put on halt. Therefore procurement planning is very important. Other requirements specific to this industry are as follows:
